Whole 30 Anyone?

Are you familiar with Whole 30?  Whole 30 is a 30 day program to reboot your eating and relationship with food. Thirty days don’t sound long and then on the other hand they sound really, really long. In short, for thirty days you abstain from the following:

-sweeteners of any kind

Yep, I’m going to try it til the end of July or maybe until we leave for Mexico. Yes, that looming trip to Mexico sure is a motivating factor. I had my daughter photograph me in my swimsuit yesterday and it was shocking! I looked awful! I will post those pictures after I see some results. Right now I am just too horrified and embarrassed for anyone else to see how terrible I look! It sounds really hard so I am modifying it slightly. I bought some ghee but if I hate it I will do butter occasionally. They say no to all grains and I will do no wheat/gluten but honestly I may do rice or oatmeal from time to time. I’m going to try not to of course, but I may. No chips or snacking foods like tortilla chips but if I am on a date at a Thai restaurant I may have a bit of rice under my chicken curry. 🙂 I’m just being honest. Oh, and as far as sweeteners? They say none at all. I might put a bit of raw honey in a tea. It’s better than a chocolate Sunday and I am afraid of being so strict that I veer off completely. So, though I’m not trying to make allowances for myself (well, maybe I am) I believe it’s in my best interest to do it this way psychologically and in all honesty if a few cups of rice and some tea with honey are the only slip ups I make, I will be thrilled with myself.

Knowing I was going to start Whole 30 I figured why not have a last hurrah and have some ice cream or cookies or candy. I figured Monday was a good day to start so why not? But then I noticed as I walked around the grocery store that nothing looked appealing so I decided to go ahead and make yesterday day 1. “Yay,” I thought to myself, “I am halfway through day one. Here is what I ate:

Breakfast: nothing
Lunch: grass-fed ground beef, sweet potatoes and onions sautéed in coconut oil with cumin and sea salt and a fried egg (look at it ~ it was delicious!!)

Snack: organic grapes
Dinner: raisins and almonds, more grapes.. and then a salad

I drank tons of water. Wasn’t hungry at all… (updated)  until 9:30 pm. Suddenly I was ravenous so I made a salad. I was so hungry and whipped together my favorite salad (romaine, avocado, raisins, almonds and goat cheese) and gobbled it down. It sure hit the spot. I think it’s the mix of tangy from the balsamic dressing with the sweet from the raisins and the crunch from the fresh romaine and almonds with the creaminess of the avocado and goat cheese. The only missing ingredient was the freshly chopped basil which I must put on my grocery list. I enjoyed it immensely and then realized..

Oops, goat cheese! Totally forgot I am not supposed to be eating dairy so I guess I am starting today instead!! Kind of bummed that I can’t count yesterday as day one but, really, I shouldn’t and I won’t beat myself up over a sprinkling of goat cheese over my salad! 🙂

In other news, Amazon Prime said my Fitbit is arriving on Monday and I found Groupons for Bikram yoga. C’mon July, bring it! I’m ready!!
