I Have No Sugar Cravings

Now I must admit I did not see this coming. I love sugar/maple syrup/raw honey/fruit/desserts/juices, heck, sweets in general and I used to eat massive quantities of sugar each day. I used to have an enormous sweet tooth but I am here to say that it is gone! Though I still crave an occasional cookie, it’s not an overwhelming/ gotta have it NOW kind of craving and it passes if I don’t satisfy it and I can go on with my day. This is really, really odd and I have no explanation other than maybe I am eating cleaner and all foods are tasting better so sweets are no longer needed. No clue.

The other weird observation that has totally blown me away is that I have a much smaller appetite. Sometimes I can skip breakfast and lunch and so as to not screw up  my metabolism I have to force myself to eat dinner. It is the strangest thing! I haven’t been really hungry in days! So odd!

I have officially lost TEN POUNDS and I am thrilled. I look a lot better but I am going to keep it going until I get under 150. Right now I weight about 154.6 but to see the scale at 149.something will be SO AWESOME! I can’t wait! The other thing I am going to start to do is lift weights. I never did get into Bikram yoga and unfortunately after this week vacation will be almost done. Without child care at yoga studios I won’t be able to try it out. Someone should really open a studio with childcare. I’d be all over that but in the meantime I will continue to focus on my walking and doing stairs and squats. What I am doing is working so I plan to continue!

Finally! 10,000 Steps!

Well it only took two weeks but yesterday, for the first time, I was able to do 10,000 steps. Wow, that is no joke! Without thinking about it I tend to do closer to 5,000 so for me to do 10,000 I really have to put in a concerted effort. How was I able to do this? Well, for one I took a walk! I walked around the neighborhood for thirty minutes so that was a start. But I realized that I still had a pretty big chunk to do so I walked during activities when I normally wouldn’t like cooking, folding laundry and talking on the phone! Well, that did it! The good thing is it means I have to keep moving; take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away, walk upstairs if I forgot something instead of asking my daughter to do it, etc. It all adds up and now I know what I have to do. I also fasted yesterday (well I ate 600 calories) so it’s all back on track!

Damn BBQ

I went to a family barbecue on Saturday and ate some cookies and spinach dip and tortilla chips and a few bites of hot dog and some goldfish crackers. Nothing was really that good, except the cookies. Man, I love those Trader Joe’s dipper cookies. I could eat those every day. Anyways, I ate a regular-sized portion of food but when I woke up I felt hung over! It was the strangest thing.  I had a stomach ache, head ache and other issues that are way too TMI for this blog but it was bad. Then on Sunday I went out for Thai food and ate some rice. This morning I felt so full and bloated and disgusting but today is a fast day so that should help. Back on track and not feeling deprived.

On another note, do you know how impossible it is (for me) to walk 10,000 steps? I haven’t been able to do it since buying my Fitbit a couple of weeks ago. The thing I love about it is it does encourage me to be more active. I will park farther away from entrances and take the stairs instead of the elevators. It all adds up so that’s encouraging.

I Fasted Two Days in a Row!

What?! Now by fasted I mean ate. For 5:2 you are “fasting” so long as you stay under 500 calories. I ate 330 calories yesterday and 625 today so I am counting these as two fast days which is all I need for the week. Yay! And now let me go sleep and fantasize about what I am going to eat for breakfast. 🙂

Do you do 5:2 intermittent fasting? I am totally sold!

Yay Me, I Fasted!

Well I am here to say that I completed my first full, no-cheat fast day, per 5:2. For 5:2 intermittent fasting, women are allowed up to 500 calories two days of the week and the rest of the week you eat normally. I have done this before and maybe ate 600 calories, maybe 800, maybe more but today was a true fasting day and I tracked it all using my new Fitbit! (man, I love that thing! 🙂 ) I ate a hard-boiled egg and a nectarine for breakfast, a small handful of almonds and raisins for lunch and a hard-boiled egg for dinner. And I drank 64oz of water. That was only 330 calories yet s I type this at 9:36pm I am not the slightest bit hungry.

I got motivated to do this again by watching the documentary about it. There are so many reasons to do this from cellular regeneration to improving blood work to losing weight to neurological benefits. I’ll take any one of those but by severely restricting your calorie intake twice a week you benefit from them all. Woot! Now don’t get me wrong; it wasn’t easy. But it’s wonderful to know that I can do it and I can eat whatever I want tomorrow. Have you ever tried intermittent fasting?

Weight and Measurements.. scary!

I bought a measuring tape a few weeks ago and have been meaning to do this as often weight loss is seen in inches before pounds.I measured myself so they may not be completely accurate but I will do them again myself every month or so.  Okay, here we go. Oh wait, first I must share my weight. I weighed myself first thing this morning and the scale read:

164 pounds (!!)  This is my heaviest in my entire life.

Measurements:
Bust:  37″
Waist:  30″ (at thinnest part)
Stomach 30″ (at fattest part)
Right arm:  11.5″
Left arm:  11.5″
Hips: 47.5″ (!!!!!!!!!!)

So starting today I am cutting way back on grains, sugar and alcohol and starting to exercise and drink more water. I am also starting 5:2. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is the current plan. I am officially disgusted with myself :-/ but ready to reverse the aging process and find my former attractive self. 🙂
