Finally! 10,000 Steps!

Well it only took two weeks but yesterday, for the first time, I was able to do 10,000 steps. Wow, that is no joke! Without thinking about it I tend to do closer to 5,000 so for me to do 10,000 I really have to put in a concerted effort. How was I able to do this? Well, for one I took a walk! I walked around the neighborhood for thirty minutes so that was a start. But I realized that I still had a pretty big chunk to do so I walked during activities when I normally wouldn’t like cooking, folding laundry and talking on the phone! Well, that did it! The good thing is it means I have to keep moving; take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away, walk upstairs if I forgot something instead of asking my daughter to do it, etc. It all adds up and now I know what I have to do. I also fasted yesterday (well I ate 600 calories) so it’s all back on track!

Damn BBQ

I went to a family barbecue on Saturday and ate some cookies and spinach dip and tortilla chips and a few bites of hot dog and some goldfish crackers. Nothing was really that good, except the cookies. Man, I love those Trader Joe’s dipper cookies. I could eat those every day. Anyways, I ate a regular-sized portion of food but when I woke up I felt hung over! It was the strangest thing.  I had a stomach ache, head ache and other issues that are way too TMI for this blog but it was bad. Then on Sunday I went out for Thai food and ate some rice. This morning I felt so full and bloated and disgusting but today is a fast day so that should help. Back on track and not feeling deprived.

On another note, do you know how impossible it is (for me) to walk 10,000 steps? I haven’t been able to do it since buying my Fitbit a couple of weeks ago. The thing I love about it is it does encourage me to be more active. I will park farther away from entrances and take the stairs instead of the elevators. It all adds up so that’s encouraging.

Two Weeks In

Well today marks two weeks of eating clean and the beginning of my second week of fasting so I think it’s a good day to do a weigh-in. I don’t think my measurements have changed all that much so I will save that for another couple of weeks, but I am pretty stoked to see what the scale says. To refresh your memory, when I got serious about making changes two weeks ago I weighed 164. Ok, off to find the scale and see what the results are. Hang on a sec…

158.8 Cool. I lost 5 pounds! All this deprivation I was hoping it would be more but I’ll take it. I have been drinking lots of water and doing some exercise so things are coming along.

I Love My Fitbit!

..Or obsessed with it may be more accurate. 🙂 It tracks my calories, steps, flights of stairs, sleep patterns and calories burned. It’s great and it really is motivating. I went for a walk this morning around the local high school track but it was blazing hot so I felt really tired after doing a mile (it was 94 degrees!). I find myself wanting to do the stairs or walk more though to see it all adding up on my dashboard. I now even run upstairs myself when I forget something in my bedroom instead of asking my daughter to do it! Ha! And the sleep function is amazing. It tells you how long it takes you to fall asleep and how well you slept by recording the number of times you were restless or woke up and when. Love it! Last night I slept 7 hours and 30 minutes which is the most I have slept in a row in quite a while and I wonder if it has to do with my new eating plan..?

Do you own a Fitbit or another type of fitness tracking device?

(A New) Day 1 is Done

Well, it could have been worse. I didn’t fast and I ate some carbs but I waited until I was hungry to eat and I didn’t overeat. It’s a (slow) start but it’s a start. I drank a lot of water and did a bit of exercise.  Tomorrow I will ramp it up more. Baby steps..

Weight and Measurements.. scary!

I bought a measuring tape a few weeks ago and have been meaning to do this as often weight loss is seen in inches before pounds.I measured myself so they may not be completely accurate but I will do them again myself every month or so.  Okay, here we go. Oh wait, first I must share my weight. I weighed myself first thing this morning and the scale read:

164 pounds (!!)  This is my heaviest in my entire life.

Measurements:
Bust:  37″
Waist:  30″ (at thinnest part)
Stomach 30″ (at fattest part)
Right arm:  11.5″
Left arm:  11.5″
Hips: 47.5″ (!!!!!!!!!!)

So starting today I am cutting way back on grains, sugar and alcohol and starting to exercise and drink more water. I am also starting 5:2. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is the current plan. I am officially disgusted with myself :-/ but ready to reverse the aging process and find my former attractive self. 🙂

Making Progress

That week before Easter I was very, very good! I gave up sugar, alcohol, grains, dairy and caffeine. I felt so much better, was never bloated and all hip pain was non-existent! It was great. I lost 7 pounds, too!

Easter day I ate everything in sight and then threw up. (Clearly I have an eating disorder!)

Today, Easter Monday, I toned it down dramatically and plan to eat as cleanly as possible from here on out. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

Now to incorporate exercise..!
